High School Music Program

The high school music program is a citywide plan for Jerusalem high school students. The program is held in the Yellow Submarine - one of the most widely regarded music establishments in the country. Our program is eligible for the national matriculation at a level of 5 points, or 10 points with an external recital.

Program Schedule

In the 10th grade, we hold 2 weekly sessions lasting 3 hours each, on Sun and Wed at 16:00-19:00.

In the 11th and 12 grade, there is one weekly 3 hour session, as well as an additional day of the week chosen independently by each student, during which they participate in group sessions.

What’s in the program?

Our high school music program features many aspects of music - theory, harmony, aural training, solfege, rhythm and musical analysis - all of which are taught in an interesting variety of methods and projects. The program aims to build tools for practical use of the material learned - each component studied will play a part in student’s practical experience: playing instruments, composing, improvising, singing and understanding music. At the end of each year a celebration including a student concert is held.

What is special about this program?

The Yellow Submarine encourages a multi-disciplinary approach to music. Each student is welcome to focus on a style or genre dear to them, all while being immersed in other styles as well. The classes take place in our main hall on the performance stage with instruments, and maintain a professional, high quality teaching environment. As a citywide program, students from all over the city and many different school are integrated into one class. The program offers students a rich platform for creativity and self expression, and holds two student concerts every year.

Who can join?

Any student enrolled in a Jerusalem [non-external] high school, who privately studies an instrument, singing or composition, and who has successfully passed our entry exams. Students must also receive authorization from their high school administration. All enlisted students are required to continue their private lessons alongside classes at the Submarine.
