About us
The Yellow Submarine, a multi-disciplinary music center, was established in 1991 by The Jerusalem Foundation, based mainly on a donation from the Floershheimer Foundation. Over the years, the Submarine has become one of the leading musical venues in the country. In the year 2000, we became a registered, independent Israeli non-profit organization. The Chair of this new non-profit is Mr. Danny Halpern, and the members of the Board are: Mr. Danny Mimran, Mr. Michael Dak, Ms. Ruth Cheshin, Mr. David Brodet, Mr. Alan Freeman, Ms. Hedva Foguel, Mr. Amnon Be’eri, Mr. Tzvika Timburg, and Mr. Brachiyahu Mansouri.

The Submarine places a heavy emphasis on education in general and music education in particular. Therefore, in all activities initiated by the Submarine – whether the Ensemble Project, the Music Appreciation courses, or any of our other many programs – education is the main goal. In difficult times such as these, the Submarine is trying to navigate – often in unclear waters – the meaning of making music.

You can find a great deal of information on the Submarine in this site, including descriptions of programs that would not be happening without the generous support of the Jerusalem Foundation, as well as that of the Jerusalem Municipality’s Department of Arts and Culture. In the last two years, we have also enjoyed substantial support from the Ministry of Culture, Science, and Sport.

A huge thanks also goes to the Caesaria Foundation and to Edmund Benjamin de Rothschild for their generous support, making possible numerous Submarine programs during the last two years.

We are now poised to begin the expansion of the current Submarine site, which will nearly double our current size. You may not believe it, but we’ve been leading dozens of programs in a space only 300 meters in size. When we’ve finished the expansion, we look forward to being able to address more fully the needs of our programs’ many participants.
